Schedule

A provisional schedule for the symposium. Further updates to come.

Monday 29 June

Day 1 - Build and Performance

The first day is dedicated to collaborative instrument building, creative coding, artificial intelligence systems, and experimental performance environments. Participants will work together throughout the day in an open lab environment, with the results feeding into the evening concert.

Welcome and introductions

Opening session and introduction of visiting artists.

Dr Martin Parker: Vibe Coding and Building Lab

A collaborative session focused on rapidly designing and building digital instruments and performance systems using creative coding, hardware prototyping, and AI tools. The main lab space remains open for experimentation with instruments and installations throughout the event.

Lunch

Dr Colin Frank, Professor Raymond MacDonald, Yoonwoo Ha, Dr Maria Sappho: VR / MR / AI Presentation

Introduction to the VR and AI systems that participants can contribute material to throughout the afternoon.

Dr Kate Steenhaer: Painting Music Demonstration

Demonstration of the Painting Music system, where live painting is translated into sound using explainable AI.

Dr Anna Xambó: Creative Music AI

This talk presents my practice with live coding and sound sampling as a suitable approach for real-time creation and improvisation with personal and crowdsourced sounds. AI algorithms can aid in the process of searching, retrieving, and discovering new sounds and patterns, opening up possibilities for unexpected interactions between humans, machines, code, data, and the audience.

Evening gig at The Old Hairdressers

An evening performance featuring instruments, systems, and collaborations developed during the day.

Artist / Research Talk with Instruments: Yoonwoo Ha

Dr Brice Catherin: Chimère Communities Session

Discussion on artistic AI, community-based AI research, and collaborative artistic methodologies.

Lunch

Roundtable - Pedagogy

Discussion on improvisation, technology, and teaching creative practice.

Roundtable - Future Directions
